New lighting on EXIT Stage Left
In this previous entry, I talked about our simple lighting setup. We used Lowel Rifa lights for the actors and some fresnels for enhancing the background. Since I wrote that post, we have added locations to the show and have run into new challenges. When shooting in our original location we were challenged due to [...]

RED Prime Lenses at NAB 2009
RED Digital Cinema has announced final specifications for their set of prime lenses. The lenses come in at a fast T1.8 and a similar front diamater of mm. The cost of the 5 lens set is $19,000. Incredibly inexpensive for a PL lens set. Of course, $19K is a lot of money for no-budget indies. [...]

We at EXIT Stage Left are now using Prompter People LED lights on our shoots. These LED lights come in 2 main sizes, which put out light similar to 1K and 500watt lights at a fraction of the power. We also use the on-board light for our documentary filmmaker. I highly recommend you go and [...]

Filmmakers Rent RED ONE, try and sell it on ebay
http://gothamist.com/2009/02/14/local_queens_pair_make_a_flop_tryin.php Below is the text of the article. On the site, they show a picture of Mike Shank and Mark Borchardt. Dumb and Dumber? I have my opinions on those two, but why put their picture next to criminals? “Faced with a shrinking market for independent cinema, two young Queens men thought that they had [...]

Well, Jim at RED has stated everything has changed again. I’m thinking they are adjusting specifications and perhaps dropping one or two models from the line up. December 3 will be the announcement.

RED Predictions Right and Wrong
RED Digital Cinema today announced the new Epic and Scarlet updates. They have blown away all speculation by almost everyone, with one exception: everyone. Scarlet and Epic are completely modular cameras that will satisfy almost everyone and in some way hit all of the speculation with 2 exceptions. First to my predictions. SCARLET: Scarlet will [...]

RED ONE, EPIC, and Scarlet Speculation
I’m going on record here to put down some speculation. I know that these are mostly likely wrong, but this is the way I see it anyway. SCARLET: Scarlet will end up being a 3K (pixels) camera with an interchangeable lens. It will have a s35mm sized sensor and will effectively make RED ONE owners [...]

Eos 5D Mk II Video!
The video looks great, but the cost to produce this spot is not cheap. There is also GREAT cinematography in this piece. NOTICE the movement. Nothing quick, nothing really handheld, no quick pans, no pans of vertical objects. I want to see a test like the d90 shake and pan similar to the one linked [...]
